about

Commercially Inviable Records welcomes home World of Fox with the release of the self-styled acoustic meddler's new album, “Borrowed Times”.

Since releasing his acclaimed debut LP, “Everything Is For The Best”, on the Birmingham country folk label in 2008, the former leader of John Peel favourites and post-rock pioneers Grover, Fox has since spread his wings and issued music through a number of other labels, projects and outlets, most notably with “Respect”, a well-received collection of 1980s covers issued on the London-based Where It's At Is Where You Are label in 2010 which featured startling versions of songs by The Smiths, Soft Cell and many others.

On this, his 3rd full length collection, World of Fox is found in an exploratory mood. The nine largely instrumental tracks resemble soundtracks for tense, nervy thrillers and see our hero experimenting with an incredibly wide variety of instruments, including banjo, theremin, mandolin, brass and woodwind, to create an album with an immersive, unique and intriguing feel.

With deceptively rich arrangements, a disarming and disquieting wit and Fox's flair for creating intimate moods, this record is a marked development into much more challenging areas, experimenting with drones, layers of atmosphere and some very 'non-folk' time signatures.

“Takes you from an Andalucian village to the rim of space” - Mike Davies (Brum Beat) on “Borrowed Times”.
